Novel terms question?

In a novel, sometimes an author will quote another novel, song, or poem before the novel actually begins. For example, in A Raisin in the Sun, the author quoted Langston Hughes' A Dream Deffered, the poem in which she got the title of the play from. Do you know what that's called? Thanks bunches!
